This blog has been quiet for a long time due to lack of time, but we are going to make it up to you. Today I saw a new video of the female Russian punk band Pussy Riot. Wow, what a difference with the anarchist-low-budget clips of the beginning. No more colored balaclavas, no more shouting, no more crappy guitars and bad camerawork. Their newest video ‘Chaika’ is well produced, directed by Andrey Fenochka and Pussy Riot’s Nadya Tolokonnikova. The music is super mellow, hip hop-like, made by the American musician and producer Dave Sitek. The cause for the clip is the documentary of the Russian political activist Alexei Navalny. He unraveled the ties between Russia’s prosecutor general, Yuri Chaika, and the country’s mafia (source: The Rolling Stone)

Pussy Riot demands an immediate investigation against General Prosecutor Chaika and his family, as well as against all the top officials in his office. We hope that the CHAIKA music video will help to convince people that we cannot live in a country where its top law enforcement official is the brightest symbol of corruption and murder. Pussy Riot hopes that people around the world will help us voice our outrage and turn Russia into a country where people like Chaika can no longer exist.

Pussy riot is not only focusing on the malpractice of Putin’s Russia. In their view the authorities in general are no good. Last year they produced a clip to comment racial issues in the USA. “I Can’t Breathe” was written and recorded in NYC as mass protests against police brutality erupt throughout the city. The video was made at the same time. Helicopters floated in the sky. Pulsating police lights were never far. This video is also well produced. Directed by Maxim Pozdorovkin and produced by Third Party Films in Brooklyn, NY. The music is of Pussy Riot feat. R. Hell, N. Zinner, A. Wyatt, Jack Wood, Scofferlane.

It seems that Pussy Riot is getting (financial) support, which is good, as long as they are independent, and not being used as a tool of propaganda.
